Mandalay Hill

03/03/2012 1:31 PM

So another day in Maynmar and with every hour that paces I find myself falling more and more in love with this place. It truly is undisturbed by western tourism. It’s wonderful. It is unfortunately raining today, however, this means that the temperatures have dropped to a cool 25+ degrees and the dusty streets some so much calmer.

This morning I went to Mandalay Hill, which consists of a giant mountain in the centre of Mandalay that is covered with numerous temples, monasteries, pilgrims and semi-wild dogs. It is unbelievable. To some extent I feel that there is not even any purpose to writing about Myanmar. Words simply cannot do justice to it. Pictures, while I have taken hundreds this morning alone, cannot captures anything but the city and monuments. But behind these beautifully adorned temples, there is an atmosphere that simple cannot be describes. There is an utter sense of welcome that no matter the language barrier, smiles and happiness seem to be everywhere. People are so welcoming; they offer you everything, welcoming you into their homes, welcoming you to eat with them. They are simply happy. Happy.

The temples this morning we unbelievable; they really do put the rest of SE Asia to shame. Anyways, il stop attempting to describes something indescribable. Hopefully a few of the pictures I took will do justice to this amazing and wonderful culture.
