So I`ve just arrived in Kuta, Bali and I very much see myself liking this place. Even though Kuta is the tourist capital of Bali, I`ve already fallen in love with it. I don’t know what it is about it, whether its the fact that its just one giant surf town, maybe its the weather or maybe its just the feeling you get when you walk out of the airport, realize you are in Bali and say to yourself `who cares` as all your worries just melt away as the breeze rolls in off the ocean. Then you start to think `maybe I should just spend the next few months island hopping` and with that goes all your cares about seeing the rest of the world. Is it at bad thing… I`m not sure. I guess all I am trying to say is that this place is fantastic. Right now I`m sitting on the top floor of an open air restaurant that overlooks a little alleyway that caters to the surfing crowd, both local and foreign; I’m back in the familiar world of motorbike traffic and the perpetual hum of day to day life of a country that seems to have maintained its own culture and lifestyle even with the massive influx of tourism. Kids still wander the streets late at night, a few sitting in front of the local corner store playing guitar; an open fire smoking from the drippings of some sort of unidentified meat, probably pork, given that’s the meat of choice in Hindu Bali, and locals watch aimlessly as travelers roam by from the comfort of a garden chair placed so perfectly in the front of their tiny, hole-in-the-wall, shops. It`s just perfect! The best of Vietnam meets Santa Cruz, California. What else could you ask for?
I can see myself just staying here as long as I can. Maybe buying a motorbike, finding a cheap bungalow on the beach from where I can watch the waves role in and just enjoying the natural wonders that provide absolute peace.
That’s it for tonight. I`m still recovering from that killer climb. Tomorrow I will probably give my body another day to recover before I get into surfing.
Gnight!
