Last Hours in Hanoi

Nha Trang Beach

So I’ve got about an hour left in Hanoi and I have choosen to spend it on one of the terrace bars near my hotel in the Old Quarter. I I'm quite glad to be leaving but at the same time will miss this place. This place has been home to me for the last 11 days and it really is a special place. If I have time and money left I may opt to spend a bit of time here on the way back. But who knows, this is really the first place ive visited in Vietnam, and for all I know I might very well find somewhere I enjoy more.

So my flight is at 5pm which means I'm leaving here at around 2:30 in case traffic is bad. I checked out of my room at noon and they were very good about it. I had booked another two nights with them, but they did not charge me extra for checking out early – they even organized my flight as well as my taxi to the aiport even though I was no longer checked in there. This place was slightly over my accomadations budget, but well worth the money. I have not a single negative thing to say about this place. If and when I return, I will most definitely opt to stay there for a bit of extra cash.

My Hotel Room

So yeah, I have mixed feelings about leaving, but I am getting bored here which means its time for a well needed change. Excited about discovering a new place. The hotel I have booked is about half the price of the one I am currently staying in for two reasons. One, it is in a small town, and two because I am downsizing. However, I still do have a kingsize bed, full shower and a balcony with a view of the sea – all for $14 a night. I have been checking the surf reports for Nha Trang over the last couple days and apparently during the winter months the waves don’t go below four foot swells. So if I'm lucking I might have some really nice surfing conditions.

As for how long I am planning to stay there I have absolutely no idea but I like it this way. Most people either love or hate Nha Trang as it is viewed as a party town for surfer, backpackers and all around hooligans. I guess well see. On the map of Vietnam there is a bit of an empty zone between Hanoi and the DMZ (which is about half way down the coast) and flights are really really cheap. If I get bored of Nha Trang I will head to Hue my plain which only costs about $45. Yes – thats for a plan ticket. I think I will end up doing most of Vietnam by air as it is only slightly more expensive than ground transportation and much faster and easier.

My flights is 1 hour and 45 minutes I will however have to check my backpack  which will make my voyage a bit longer, but my hotel has agreed to pick me up from the airport which is about an hour from my hotel for a minimal fee of about $12.

See you there!
